About The Event
Hathern Local History Society presents an exhibition of photographs at Pasture Lane School. It will include:
1921 Census
A highlight will be the newly-released 1921 census of Hathern: a fascinating record of 294 families, many
familiar names with descendants still in the village. People were still involved with hosiery, but Swift’s and
Fuller’s factories were replacing the old home-working. Many people were now working outside Hathern at
places like the Brush and Herbert Morris. The census will be displayed alongside the 1921 OS map of Hathern
and photos from that time – so find out where your relatives lived. Many, but thankfully not all, of these houses
have been demolished.
Playgroup and School
Playgroup photos from the past will be on view and there are many albums, donated to the History Society by
Pastures New Playgroup. School class photos of every year group from the oldest onwards will be displayed.
Look back to see your forebears, yourselves, children and grandchildren.
Hathernware
Photographs of terracotta and other work produced at Hathernware and belonging to people in and around
Hathern.
New Material
Recent acquisitions donated by members of the village and by Richard and Inger Mee, formerly of Oakley
Grange Farm. A special feature this year will be pictures of Hathern never published before, including a sketch
from 1840 of Church Street and The Cross and a magnificent photo of sledging up at Oak
